Frequently Asked Questions

Is passing the OSSLT mandatory to graduate high school in Ontario?

Yes. All students working toward an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) must pass the provincial literacy requirement. Students who do not pass must either retake the test in a subsequent school year or enroll in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O).

When do students take the OSSLT?

Eligible Grade 10 students take the test during the provincial administration windows: typically in the fall (November/December) for Semester 1 students, or in the spring (March/April) for Semester 2 students.

How many sessions are needed to prepare for the OSSLT?

Most students benefit from a focused 4 to 8 week package (1 to 2 sessions per week). We conduct a preliminary diagnostic writing and reading assessment to determine your child's specific areas of need and tailor the timeline accordingly.
