“AP readiness starts with strong foundations.”

AP Courses We Support

Each AP course is taught alongside its Ontario curriculum equivalent, ensuring students stay current with schoolwork while preparing for the AP exam.

AP Calculus AB

Grade 12

Covers differential and integral calculus, equivalent to a first-semester university course. Builds on Ontario's MCV4U.

Limits & ContinuityDerivativesIntegralsFundamental Theorem of Calculus

AP Calculus BC

Grade 12

Full first-year university calculus, including integral calculus, series, and differential equations. Requires concurrent MCV4U.

All AB topicsSeries & SequencesDifferential EquationsParametric Equations

AP Biology

Grade 11-12

Explores cellular energetics, molecular genetics, ecology, and gene regulation. Aligned with SBI3U and SBI4U.

Cell BiologyGeneticsEvolutionEcology

AP Chemistry

Grade 11-12

Covers kinetics, thermodynamics, equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Aligned with SCH3U and SCH4U.

AP Mathematics Pathway

The Ontario university STEM pathway requires Advanced Functions (MHF4U) and Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U). AP adds exam-level depth to these courses.

Focus
Grade 9
MTH1W (Enriched / AP Prep)
Core Grade 9 math with contest-level enrichment
Grade 10
MPM2D (Enriched / AP Prep)
Pre-calculus fundamentals: quadratics, trigonometry
Grade 11
MCR3U + MHF4U (AP Prep)
Fast-track MHF4U to create room for Grade 12 calculus
Grade 12
MCV4U + AP Calculus AB/BC
Ontario Calculus & Vectors + AP exam content

AP Math Notes

AP Calculus AB covers one semester of university calculus.AP Calculus BC covers a full first-year university calculus course, including integral calculus, series, and differential equations. AP Physics C requires concurrent enrollment in Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U).

AP Science Pathway

Ontario STEM tracks build toward SBI4U, SCH4U, and SPH4U. AP adds exam-level depth in each discipline.

Important Scheduling Notes

Understanding how AP courses fit into the Ontario high school schedule helps students and parents make informed decisions.

Modular Independence

Unlike IB, AP courses are independent. A student can take AP Chem, AP Physics C, and AP Calculus while skipping Biology - no program constraints.

OUAC Reporting

AP students receive standard Ontario report card marks evaluated against the 4U curriculum. AP exam scores are sent separately to universities.

Standalone Exams

AP exams are written in May. Students can self-register through their school or as private candidates through the College Board.

Fast-Tracking

Many AP students fast-track MHF4U into Grade 11 Semester 2 to free up space for AP Calculus in Grade 12.

How AP Tutoring Works

01

Assessment

We assess your child's current understanding of Ontario curriculum content and identify gaps for AP preparation.

02

Tutor Match

We connect you with a tutor experienced in AP-level Math or Science who understands both the Ontario curriculum and AP exam expectations.

03

Targeted Sessions

One-to-one sessions focus on AP-style questions, exam technique, and strengthening foundational knowledge.

04

Exam Readiness

Regular practice with past AP exams and feedback ensures your child enters the exam with confidence.

AP or IB?

Both pathways offer rigorous academic challenges. Understanding the differences helps you choose the right path for your child.

AP

Advanced Placement

  • Standalone exams - pick subjects independently
  • Modular: mix and match courses freely
  • No program-wide structure constraints
  • Ontario marks reported to OUAC directly
  • Exam scores sent to universities separately
  • Fast-track options available for advanced students
IB

IB Diploma

  • Structured diploma program with 6 subjects
  • Two-science rule: max 2 experimental sciences
  • Requires Theory of Knowledge (TOK) + Extended Essay
  • Percentage grades converted from IBSO scale
  • External exams written in May
  • Strong focus on inquiry-based and conceptual learning
