Understanding SNC2D Grade 10 Science
SNC2D is the academic Grade 10 Science course in the Ontario Curriculum. It builds on the integrated science foundation from SNC1D in Grade 9 and introduces students to more specialized content in biology, chemistry, physics, and earth/space science.
This guide covers the SNC2D curriculum structure, key topics, assessment methods, and how tutoring can help students master the course. Whether your child is considering a career in STEM or simply needs to meet graduation requirements, this guide provides the information you need.
SNC2D Curriculum Overview
The Ontario Curriculum for Grade 10 Science (SNC2D) is organized into four strands: Biology (Tissues, Organs, and Systems), Chemistry (Chemical Reactions), Physics (Light and Optics), and Earth and Space Science (Climate Change). Each strand develops students' understanding of scientific concepts while building skills in investigation, analysis, and communication.
Key Topics in SNC2D
Students study cell division, tissue types, organ structure and function, and the interactions between body systems in biology. In chemistry, they learn about indicators of chemical change, types of reactions, and the conservation of mass. In physics, they investigate properties and behaviors of light. In earth science, they explore climate change evidence and impacts.
Assessment Structure in SNC2D
SNC2D assessment follows the Ministry of Education's Growing Success framework. The final grade is weighted across four categories: Knowledge and Understanding (25%), Thinking and Investigation (25%), Communication (25%), and Application (25%). Assessment includes labs, reports, tests, and a final summative assessment.
How Tutoring Supports SNC2D Success
SNC2D covers diverse topics across biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. Many students struggle because the course moves quickly through different scientific disciplines. A tutor provides the structured, personalized support that helps students master each strand. IntelliX Educational Services offers SNC2D tutoring with Ontario-certified educators who understand the Halton District School Board curriculum.
